About GKVale and its Fourth Generation Leader
GKVale was founded on May 23, 1910, by Gandhara Kumara Vale as Madras Photo Stores with an initial capital of Rs.100. The first store was opened in a prominent location of Bangalore M.G. Road (then known as South Parade). GKVale entered the photography business when there was still a huge demand for hand drawn portraits, photographs were still sepia-tinted, and cameras were the prized possessions of the elite. Over the years, GKVale kept up with the latest technologies, came up with innovative ideas that suited the tastes of the youth, and brought everything related to photographs under one umbrella.

Anand, the ever ebullient new age director of GKVale and the fourth generation of the family to run the business, was quick to sense opportunities. GKVale was already an established store giving tough competition to its rivals in and beyond Bangalore.
Seeking to take advantage of the brand equity enjoyed by GKVale in the region, Anand expanded the enterprise slowly and steadily between 2003 and 2008. As of 2008, GKVale had 15 stores in Bangalore and one store in Mysore. He also extended the product offerings by GKVale. GKVale did not just offer its patrons photography services that did not compromise on quality but it also offered the latest photography gadgets like cameras and accessories at the lowest prices possible to all photography enthusiasts.
It had thus become a one stop solution provider for all photography needs. GKVale was acclaimed as India’s No.1 Camera Retail Store as it was the pioneer in exclusive retailing of only camera and photography related accessories.
According to Anand, "Just as how photography has evolved from black and white images to digital ones, we have also moved with the times."...
